About Sky News UK

Sky News is a global leader in news broadcasting, delivering live news, analysis and on-demand content to audiences around the world. As one of the UK's most recognised news brands, the service operates across web, mobile and connected TV platforms, reaching viewers wherever they consume news. Its digital presence is central to how it serves and grows its audience.

The opportunity

Sky News UK faced an urgent challenge: their existing OTT provider had withdrawn support, leaving the team with a critical gap in their digital infrastructure. They needed to move quickly to a new platform without disrupting the viewing experience for their audience.

Beyond the immediate transition, Sky News had wider goals. They wanted to expand their connected device presence significantly, activate advertising revenue from launch, and build on existing Sky partnerships — all while establishing a stable, scalable foundation for long-term digital growth.

The solution

Sky News UK partnered with Easel TV to rebuild its OTT presence at speed. Easel TV was subsequently integrated into Accedo One, which now forms part of the Leyra OTT platform.

Sky News UK was able to:

Migrate from a withdrawn OTT provider within one month, maintaining uninterrupted service for viewers

Launch across seven connected device platforms, significantly expanding audience reach at launch

Activate advertising revenue from day one using integrated ad capabilities, meeting commercial objectives immediately

Leverage existing Sky partnerships within the platform, building on established commercial and technical relationships

Give editorial and digital teams full control over content management and scheduling for live and on-demand output in one place

Deliver reliable, cloud-based streaming at scale, supporting the demands of a global news broadcaster

Provide a stable, scalable platform to support long-term digital growth

The Outcome

Sky News UK went from losing its OTT provider to being live across seven platforms in under a month. That pace of delivery meant minimal disruption to viewers and a rapid return to commercial operations, with advertising revenue active from launch.

Expanding to seven connected device platforms significantly increased audience reach and gave the team full control over their digital output. Rather than a like-for-like replacement, the transition became an opportunity to build a more capable, scalable platform, one that continues to underpin what Leyra delivers for broadcasters today.
