About OUTtv

OUTtv is a Canadian television network and streaming service specialising in programming for the LGBTQ+ community. Its catalogue spans original and acquired content including reality shows, dramas, documentaries and films that reflect the experiences and perspectives of LGBTQ+ audiences.

Having established a strong base in Canada, OUTtv set out to bring its service to English-speaking audiences around the world.

The opportunity

Following its success in Canada, OUTtv identified a significant opportunity to reach LGBTQ+ audiences across 13 international markets. International expansion, however, brings real complexity: high development costs per market, varying content rights and curation requirements, and the operational challenge of maintaining a consistent brand and service quality across multiple territories simultaneously.

OUTtv needed a platform with genuine multi-market capability. That meant a single system for managing multiple branded services, in-depth analytics to understand local viewing habits and content performance by territory, and the scalability to grow into new markets without rebuilding infrastructure for each launch.

The solution

OUTtv partnered with Accedo One to build and scale its international streaming presence, using a joint solution with Brightcove Video Cloud to handle both content management and OTT delivery. The technology behind Accedo One now forms part of the Leyra OTT platform, which continues to support and evolve the OUTtv service.

OUTtv was able to:

Launch streaming services across 13 international markets, each tailored to local content rights, curation and market requirements, while operating from a single centralised platform

Manage multiple branded services across different territories within one organisation, simplifying the setup and ongoing management of each market

Integrate with Brightcove Video Cloud for video ingestion, transcoding, metadata management and delivery, maintaining existing workflows without duplication

Scale into new markets without a corresponding increase in technical or operational headcount, keeping expansion cost-effective

Access analytics covering content performance, device usage and subscriber behaviour by territory, enabling more informed content and acquisition decisions

Deliver consistent streaming performance across markets through scalable cloud infrastructure

Enforce content rights and geo-restrictions on a market-by-market basis, ensuring compliance without added operational complexity

The Outcome

OUTtv expanded from a single-market Canadian service to a streaming presence across 13 international territories, managing each from a single platform without increasing operational complexity.

The ability to manage multiple branded services within one system was key to making international expansion viable. Rather than treating each new market as a separate technical project, OUTtv could configure territory-specific content, rights and curation centrally, significantly reducing the cost and effort of each new launch.

Analytics supported this expansion by giving visibility into content performance, subscriber behaviour and acquisition across markets, enabling the team to make more informed decisions as they scaled.

With a platform built for multi-market growth, OUTtv can continue expanding internationally without the overhead typically associated with global OTT rollout.
